ASP 100 is a class for you to become a successful student. This class covers everything you need to know to succeed in school and even outside of school. Have any of you ever had a problem and couldn’t figure out how solve it? Well look no farther! Some of the things it covers is; how to use technology, how to save money, staying healthy and stress free, making good decisions, time management, knowing about your learning and classroom skills! We learned everything from the, P.O.W.E.R. Learning: Strategies for Success in College and Life book. Let’s first start of with the basics. What POWER stands for is Prepare, Organize, Work, Evaluate, and Rethink.
A really important key fact to do is set short and long term goals for yourself. You make your short term goals to help you get to your long term goal. However you should make them realistic and be determined to accomplish them. You have to stay motivated to get what you want! Another thing we learned in this class was about internal and external control. You have to take responsibility for your own actions don’t blame your “luck” or another person.
There are some things you can do to prepare yourself for anything. For example, making sure you manage your time efficiently. If you want to control your time better you should have a master calendar or a to-do list, it will make your life easier and you can schedule more time for your goals or social life. However one thing you should try to avoid is procrastination. You should keep distraction to a minimum and get your projects done in time. Also know what your priorities are and spend more time on those and worry about the little things later on.
“Learning styles reflect our preferred manner of acquiring, using, and thinking about knowledge.” (p. 58) Your learning style is what helps you learn not just in class but in general as well. There are four different types; read/write, visual/graphic, auditory/verbal, and tactile/kinesthetic style. Once you know which you, you can tell other people and it’ll be easier to learn and communicate with each other.
There is one thing that all of us worry about… money. We don’t have enough, we ran out, we don’t know how to save, a lot of things happen and we stress out about money. One thing that can help is making a budget and keep track on what you spend on. Again you have to prioritize on what you should be spending your money on like bills, rent, and groceries should be paid for, before spending money on movies or going out.
And speaking on stress, the class covers on how to make sure you don’t stress too much. We even listened to relaxation music to meditate and breath. Stress can be very harmful to your health, especially if you stress a lot more than the average person. Everyone stresses about something, to me I stress most about money. We deal with daily hassles like getting to work on time and personal stressors like getting married. The main thing you have to learn about stress is, to not stress yourself out. Don’t worry about changing things that are out of your control or that you don’t have to worry about right now. Just take a deep breath, count to ten, take a small break, listen to some music, or do some yoga to calm down for a bit before moving on to the next problem. However one thing you don’t need to stress about is this class! ;)
If you are reading this blog of mine, I recommend this class because it covers everything that you will ever really need!
